IT OZ provides a repair service for many types of computer and IT equipment. We offer the Sunshine Coast Area solutions depending upon the nature and urgency of your repair.

Below is a description of the repair process, and an idea of basic pricing. It is worth nothing that each repair has different pitfalls and costs associated with it, we strongly recommend checking with our technical team to ensure you get the best possible service.

Mac & PC Repairs

How do I get a computer repaired?

Our repairs procedure follows these steps:

  1. Contact our sales team on 54922073 or by 0432855470  - they will give you an order number and take your details.

  2. Arrange to get your computer to us by one of these methods:

    • Ask us to collect and deliver - We do offer a collection and delivery service for the Sunshine Coast Area, which costs from $10 to $30 (dependant on kilometres from Caloundra) - we require 24 hours notice in order to collect goods. We still require you to package up the machine, and supply AC adapters.

  1. Our engineers will evaluate the machine for you and provide you a detailed breakdown of the costs involved. The cost of the evaluation is   $10-to-$30 {dependant on distance from Caloundra}  (with the exception of some laptops - this will always be mentioned in advance). Obviously for some faults it is clear what the problem is, and this fee will not need to be charged.

  2. You decide whether you would like to proceed with the repair. If so we will endeavour to give you an estimate of the timescale involved - please remember that some parts can take longer periods of time than others to order - if you request is very urgent please make this clear to the sales staff. If you do not wish to go ahead with the repair you will incur no extra costs beyond the agreed evaluation fee, and any shipping charges.

  3. Once the repair has been carried out we will arrange to get the computer back to you by the method agreed.

What costs are involved?

With any repair it is very difficult to give an idea of exact cost - each individual repair is different, though we do give examples in the what we repair section of this page.

The only charges that you, the client, will be paying in the first instance are:

  1. Evaluation fee - to determine the cause of the problems and to quote for the repair - $10 to $30{dependant on distance from Caloundra}, no charge if job gets done on site (for some laptops - due to the time involved in disassembling them - this may cost more. This will always be quoted in advance).

  1. Delivery charges - We offer 2 options

    • Collection and delivery $10 to $30 {dependant on distance from Caloundra}.

    • delivery after repair or evaluation $10 to $30 (if repaired at workshop) & dependant on distance from Caloundra

After a computer is evaluated, a full quotation and description of fault will be supplied - it is then up to the end user to say yes or no to the repair.

All engineers time is charged at $30/$50 per hour, a complete breakdown of any costs involved will be given after the evaluation.

Our pricing system is transparent - you will be told beforehand how much we expect your repair to cost, and we will not exceed this budget without consulting you (the vast majority of our repairs take less than 2 hours).

What timescale are we looking at?

We endeavour to look at your computer and evaluate it within 15 minutes of looking at it or receiving it. We will then give you the quotation for repair.

As for timescale on the repair, this is specific to your individual fault and the parts involved. If it is a readily available part or simply a software fix then 1 to 24 hours is the target we aim for (often we are much quicker than this). If your repair requires specific parts we will detail this to you, and we make the point that all time scales given are based on our suppliers' availability. Although we will let you know of any delays, IT OZ will not be financially or otherwise liable for losses incurred by extended lead times.

What guarantees do I have?

For all repairs we give a 1-month RTB (return to base) warranty on the work carried out {only work carried out on software}. If in the 1-month period the fault replicates itself you may, upon agreement from our technical team, return it for the work to be redone - this is a rarity.

For the spares we use we offer many types of warranty - these once again will be detailed with any quotation. We use refurbished, new and second hand parts. In the case of new parts they have a full manufactures warranty (usually 1 - 3 years) for cheaper reconditioned parts we give these a 1, 3 or 6 month warranty.

What Products can you repair?

Mac Laptop Repair

From the PowerBook 100 to the latest G4 machines we can get spares and parts for all these computers, and carry out almost any repair. It is worth noting that the older the computer the more difficult to acquire parts it becomes. In some cases it may be worth considering one of our refurbished PowerBooks instead of a costly repair. We can also arrange for your data to be transferred - this is available at extra cost and depends upon the nature and size of the data.

The most common faults that occur on all laptop computers are hard drives, memory, LCD screen or keyboard, all can be replaced - If the screen or motherboard need replacing these can cost more than the machine is worth to repair. We can advise you as to whether a repair is likely to be economical or not.

Common Mac Laptop Repairs and Sample Prices
  • Replace Hard drive in a PowerBook G3 and installation of Operating System - 2 Hours at $40 per hour + Parts (from $50/400 dependant on drive size).
  • Replacement PowerBook G3 screen - 3 hours at $40 + Parts.
  • PowerBook Memory Upgrade - $50 to $400 - dependant upon machine + Part.

Mac Desktop Repair

From the Macintosh Plus to the Dual G4s we can repair, service and help maintain your Apple Mac Desktop. As desktop computers use more commonly found components than laptop ones, the parts usually required are much more inexpensive and much more easily accessible, hence a reduced repair cost.

Common Mac Desktop Repairs and Sample Prices
  • Replace hard drive in PowerMac G4 and installation of an Operating system - 1 hour at $40 + a hard drive (from $50/200 dependant on drive size).
  • Processor Upgrade for a standard PowerMac - 1 Hour at $40 + part ($150/500 dependant on processor speed).
  • Install Processor Upgrade into a G4 Cube - 3 Hours at $40 + part (one of the most fiddley jobs that can be done).

One thing to note is that parts for specific intel laptops are notoriously difficult to source - for example Dell, HP & Compaq all make it very difficult to acquire spares for their machines, unfortunately we may be unable to source specific parts like screens, keyboards and logic boards.

PC Desktop Repair

From 486s to intel inside celeron or Pentium 4 and Athlon machines we can repair, service, and help maintain your Windows Explorer. Software problems are often fiddley to fix - in some cases it is much better to clean install the computer and start again - replacing the corrupt operating system. We can do this and keep your data intact - this service costs from $100 .

Of course there are many many more repairs we do; these are intended to make our pricing and terms clear before you call us up. Call our experts today to see if we can help with your computer problems.

What Products Can't you Repair?

Monitors - these tend to have impossible to find parts and require a lot of disassembly and soldering - after many experiments the success rate was so low that we no longer repair these items. Once labour and replacement parts are taken into consideration we find that a replacement monitor is normally a more economically viable alternative. We sell a wide range of guaranteed refurbished and new monitors, so ask our sales team for an appropriate product.

Inkjet Printers - We don't repair these at all, the reason for this is that new printers these days cost from a little as $39+GST and although your printer may have cost a lot more when first purchased, a replacement is always cheaper and often of much better quality.

Laser Printers - These items can usually be repaired, but we suggest contacting the manufacturer of your machine regarding any fault for an Authorised Repair Agent.

iPods - These fantastic little MP3 players are great and we like them a lot - unfortunately they are not repairable by anyone other than Apple as they are sealed units and very tricky to take apart. Sorry.

Scanners - Scanners are now relatively inexpensive, and again it is usually not economically viable to repair them. If you have a high-end scanning device we would suggest you contact the manufacturer.
